| Owner Matt Housely explains, you cannot just go out to a mine and find 50 different gems. They are exclusive and sticks more to one or two minerals per min. When we mine we go for one particular gem or mineraland that is it. Other mines in the area produce certain types of minerals such as Aquamarine, Garnet, Emerald and more. Our family has mined this area for over 200 years, we have old maps, literature and handed-down information from generations past; so we have a lot of mining locations to goto here in the mountains that no has availability to mine and bring back the different types of gems we sell in buckets at our shop. This are has 300 types of gems and minerlas within miles of Spruce Pine, NC. We then go into the mine and remove the gems from the top that are visible or dig deeper and blast to find what we are searching for. After the raw gemstones are collected from the mones, we separate them into piles here at our shop near the Blue Ridsge Parkway and next door to the North Carolina Mineral Museum. A variety of the gemstones are placed into buckets. The larger the bucket the more different gemstones you can find. When you sift through the materials in our on site flume mines. "Whatever You Find You Keep!". If you want you can take your gem and turn it into a precious piece of keepsake jewlery to remember your experience. We polish and cut the gemstones and place them into a custom piece of jewelry you can call your own. |
